Last May 13, the sumptuous Chanel Cruise Collection for 2014/15 was staged inside a custom made building covered with glass walls in an imagined, paradisiac island just outside Dubai.
With large natural resources such as Oil, Dubai has grown throughout the decade, turning into a prosperous and surreal country with impressive Sci-fi buildings. In his Chanel collection, it is evident that Karl has kept in mind the greatness of the emirate's transformative landscape through its sequined version of Dubai's Skyline on one of its tunic tops and also the country's richness in Oil as seen in the unique designed oil can purse.
With the Islamic crescent moon symbol in beautiful headpieces and bracelets, the looks brought the image of a powerful woman, a kind of Middle Eastern Sailor Moon that exudes the magic of the oriental world. A great mix of florals, patchworks, sequins and Harem pants made the feminine collection, brimming with the local taste of Dubai's ethnic culture, but the greatest thing about it is that Karl was really able to encapsulate the essence of what Dubai is made of. All in just one whimsical fashion show.
