LaCie teamed up with Philippe Starck to create a limited edition hard drive that promises to be the next statement piece in any home office, study or media room.
Inspired by the "tech-noir" aesthetic that made the iconic Ridley Scott movie back in 1982, LaCie Blade Runner combines an anthropomorphic metal interior with an angular cage-like shell. Signed by StarcK in the form of an orange LED power button, the piece was entirely conceived by the designer, who's influence is quite evident from the complex design concept to the hands-on manufacturing process.
"In my design nothing is useless – style, symbolism or functionality," says Philippe Starck. "In the Blade Runner, the warm interior electronics are encased in a mystifying shell, and the blades are the radiator that cools it down. The suspension gives space for air to circulate around the hard drive, and the metal material increases the temperature conduction."
Available in a 4TB capacity and high-speed USB 3.0 interface, the hard-drive also offers 10GB of complimentary storage at Wuala Secure Cloud for a year.
