Body paint art is one of the oldest forms of expression. Throughout history, people have used it as a strong symbol of power, position or origin, through traditional rituals and ceremonies or as a preparation for war and hunt.
German artist Gisene Marwedel
took this ancient art form and made it into something quite extraordinary.
After moving to India, where she was able to work with children, Gisene got inspired by the rich culture of this country and decided to learn more about the arts and the traditional henna techniques. Although she started with painting, she quickly moved to wall painting and then she gradually turned to body painting, making it into a whole new art form. Gisene Marwedel managed to turn the human body into a living canvas, while using different body shapes and poses to depict her subjects that usually come in the form of animals.
